The weekend after Thanksgiving is finally slowing down, and I’m reflecting on one of my biggest baking projects yet. This year, I decided to make homemade dinner rolls and cinnamon rolls for five households—15 people in total. That meant over 20 batches of dough, all baked in a single day!
The Recipe That Started It All
I used a classic recipe from a Betty Crocker cookbook, a gift from my husband’s mom years ago. No fancy twists—just the tried-and-true original that never disappoints. Each family received a batch of rolls and a batch of cinnamon rolls to enjoy at home, plus extra rolls for our Thanksgiving dinner.
An 11-Hour Baking Marathon
This wasn’t a quick project. It took 11 hours of mixing, kneading, and baking, all in one marathon session. My girls helped sprinkle cinnamon and sugar, and we laughed together as the kitchen turned into a flour explosion. By 12:30 a.m., everything was baked and packaged in aluminum pans and zip-top bags for easy transport.
The Smell of Fresh Bread
The aroma of fresh bread filled the house, and I couldn’t resist sampling a warm roll from my test batch. Everyone loved their treats, which made every late-night knead worth it. Honestly, I might make this an annual tradition—and maybe add some special Christmas treats too.
Why I Love Baking for the Holidays
It’s a lot of work, but baking brings people together. It creates memories, fills the house with warmth, and reminds me why I love doing this every year.
